Super Trouper

Went to catch the full dress rehearsal of Mama Mia! the musical yesterday afternoon. The show opened to the public last nite. While broadway musicals are often not known to present any serious message, I found that underneath all the shining lycra, sequins, jokes and dancing queens, there is a real "moral of the story". I realised a few "morals" really in yesterday's energetic and enjoyable performance with a heart. These are close to the central teachings of yoga:

  • To know who you are, you need not look for the affirmation of others nor external achievement, you need only to look inside you, follow your heart and open yourself to possibilities.
  • Trust in your love and embrace the open-endedness of life.
  • Protecting your ego prevents you from loving others.
  • Forgive others and be free -- forgive youself and be freer.

The production will be on for 10 weeks in Singapore starting from last night. Showing at Esplanade. Highly recommended. Warnng: incessant humming of ABBA tunes and enduring feel-good feeling are induced by exposure to the production. Brochure available at OmIm.

I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail

I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I’ll cross the stream - I have a dream

I have a dream, a fantasy
To help me through reality
And my destination makes it worth the while
Pushing through the darkness still another mile

I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I’ll cross the stream - I have a dream
I’ll cross the stream - I have a dream
